Brett Favre Believes Rams Quarterback Austin Davis Could Be the Next Tom Brady

The jury is still out on the young quarterback out of Southern Mississippi.

Don't look now, but the St. Louis Rams have the next Tom Brady or Kurt Warner on their hands. While watching this past Sunday's game between the St. Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks, Brett Favre said he saw a little bit of the two aforementioned, accomplished quarterbacks in Austin Davis

"Austin can definitely play at this level," Brett Favre, the only Southern Miss quarterback other than Davis to start more than one NFL game, told ESPN's Ed Werder.

"Not to sound off my rocker, but [Davis] -- in my mind -- can be the next Tom Brady or Kurt Warner. [Brian] Hoyer as well.

"Austin, like those mentioned, just needed a legit opportunity."

Now, before you go questioning Favre's talent evaluation skills, it's worth pointing out that Davis did set a record for best completion percentage (86 percent) against a Super Bowl defending team after going 18 for 21 versus the vaunted Seahawks defense. In six games this season, Davis has thrown for 1,517 yards with nine touchdowns and four interceptions. It's not terrible numbers for a quarterback who was just thrown into the fire following Sam Bradford's injury, but we're definitely not onboard with Favre's claim... yet.

When asked about his fellow Southern Mississippi quarterback's comparison, Davis said:

"I don't really want to be the next anybody," he said. "I just want to be the first Austin Davis and just keep doing what we're doing and try to go on a winning streak here. It felt good to get one this past week; I think it was much needed for our football team. We're just going to try to keep it going."
