The United States Lay it All on the Line as They Fall to Belgium 2-1 in Extra Time (GIFs)

Despite Tim Howard's miraculous performance in goal, the United States fell 2-1 to Belgium in extra time.

It took 92 minutes to breach Tim Howard and the United States defense, and just 22 minutes later the Red Devils doubled their advantage through substitute Romelu Lukaku. The U.S. spent most of the match on the back foot, with Tim Howard making save after save...after save... And although 19-year-old U.S. substitute Julian Green was able to bring one back early in the second period of extra time, it simply wasn't meant to be for Jurgen Kilnsmann and company. Kevin De Bruyne scored the opener above, and Belgium were on their way to a quarterfinal matchup with Argentina.
