Musk gave even more details in an interview with Auto Express and the Model 3 will be unveiled in 2016 and go on sale in 2017 with a target price of $35,000. The car was previously supposed to be called the Model E, but Tesla lost a trademark battle with Ford over the name. The Model E also would have made a Tesla lineup that spelled S-E-X.
