General Motors' Chinese development team just came up with an app that will send a person a text after scanning their driver's license regardless of whether the other person has downloaded the app or not.
This is a really stupid idea.
Not only does it allow people to easily harass each other from behind the anonymity of a phone number, but it also presents an opportunity for a new, annoying kind of spam and encourages people to text while driving (and angry). Of course, we can't imagine that privacy laws in the USA would allow this app to function, but it's still just an awful, awful idea.
