Volkswagen has revealed new information regarding its upcoming next-generation of dual-clutch gearboxes, indicating that the transmissions will sport ten gears.
The jump in ratios is down to VW’s quest to increase performance and emissions, and although seemingly over-complicated, officials confirm that the transmission has tested well in ongoing prototyping.
The ten-speed is likely to be paired with smaller three- and four-cylinder engines inside many of Volkswagen’s cars, with a tentative debut in 2016. But don’t think the DSG is going to be just a fuel-miser. VW powertrain head Dr. Hans-Jakob Neusser hinted that the ten-speed will handle up to 368 lb-ft of torque. Golf R 400 anyone?
