The New York Yankees have placed left-hander CC Sabathia on the DL with inflammation in his right knee. This news may actually come as a relief to Yankees fans, who have watched their supposed “ace” struggle all season seemingly without explanation.

After losing a ton of weight since the end of last year, Sabathia has gone 3-4 with a 5.28 ERA this season and has been very hittable, with opponents putting up a .301 average against him. He’s been surpassed in the rotation by Masahiro Tanaka and (until he got hurt) Michael Pineda, but still has two years and at least $53 million remaining on his contract.

Manager Joe Girardi said that the DL stint will likely only last 15 days, but considering the Yankees’ current health problems this was an injury they could Ill-afford.
