Reports from company insiders suggest that Toyota USA will be making the move from the company’s current headquarters in Torrance, California to Plano, Texas. News broke on Sunday, though an official statement from Toyota hasn’t been issued. The expected move will affect more than 5,300 employees from within the company’s Torrance operations.

Southern California rivals Detroit as one of the nation’s largest automotive hubs. Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, Mitsubishi, and Toyota all maintain headquarters in the region, however Texas offers tax breaks and reduced regulations to larger companies. The incentives have already claimed the relocation of over 50 large-scale California companies to Texas in the past year and a half.

If you’re thinking of buying a Toyota, don’t worry. Consumers most likely won’t notice a difference over the expected two-year move. Production is anticipated to continue unhindered, though there has been no mention of what will happen to CALTY, Toyota’s design studio based in Newport Beach, California.
