VW Is Going to Beijing With a 400 Horsepower Golf R

Because the A45 AMG's record has stood for too long.

The Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG's engine hold a record for the most power from the least engine in a production car, having extracted 355 horses from only two litres. Now Volkswagen is one upping 45 upping Mercedes with the VW Golf R 400.

Yeah, the 400 stands for the horsepower figure that the Golf R's 2.0L I4 will be making. This means that the practical hatchback that is the Golf will be available in a format that hits 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds and tops out at 174 mph. Since most Americans still haven't figured out that hatchbacks can be fast, this would make for a fantastic sleeper over here, despite the flared wheel arches, new bumpers, and 20" wheels.

We really hope VW offers it in the USA.
