The New Honda Civic Type R Is Bringing Turbo Back to Europe

It's also bringing sexy.

Americans might not know the Honda Civic Type R, so here's some history: Discontinued in 2010, the Type R was Honda's high-performance Civic exclusive to Europe and Asia (and also Australia for a short time). Today Honda announced the Type R will return sleeker than ever to Europe in 2015.

Some of the lines are familiar, but the revival is carved more dramatically, most notably in the rear fender widened for 20-inch rims. Both the upper and lower grilles have been beefed up, as well as the intakes. In the back we also see the boldness continue in the spoiler. All of this wouldn't matter, however, unless there's some heat underneath the hood.

While not showing all of its cards yet, Honda has promised a new two-liter, four-cylinder VTEC TURBO engine capable of "at least" 280 horsepower. The company's goal has been to create a "racing car for the road" instead of a "high-performance version of a road car." Appearance-wise, we think the Type R is living up to that goal, but we want more performance details before calling it completely.
