The good and bad news.

Porsche has revealed the new 2014 Boxster and Cayman GTS models that will go on sale this summer. These versions are evolutions of the respective “S” models, but it doesn’t take a trained eye to spot that they seem more defined by a price-point than engineering potential.

Both GTS versions produce 15hp more than the “S” models, which translates to 330hp for the Boxster and 340hp for the Cayman, developed by Porsche’s 3.4L flat-six. Torque follows the same formula, with an increases of 7 lb.-ft. But numbers aren’t where these roadsters separate themselves – it’s the experience.

Porsche overhauled the suspension setup and engine management systems on both GTS models, providing stiffer damping and increased throttle response. If you opt for the seven-speed PDK transmission, you’ll be rewarded with launch control, capable of rocketing the Cayman and Boxster GTS to 60mph in around 4.6 seconds. A quick trip, but no 911.

Outside, Porsche updated the front and rear fascias, added Bi-Xenon headlights, and fitted black Carrera S alloy wheels to all four corners. It may be built to be not-as-good as a 911, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t one hell of an experience.
