The 2014 Winter Olympics have turned out to be a total bust for American snowboarder Shaun White.
Last week, White withdrew from the inaugural men's slopestyle event at the Olympics because he suffered a wrist injury during a practice run and because he didn't like the way that the slopestyle course was set up. He also noted that he wanted to put all of his time and energy into preparing for the Olympic halfpipe since he was going to be attempting to win his third consecutive gold medal in the event. However, earlier today, that didn't work out too well for him, either.
White didn't end up winning the gold medal in the halfpipe event. That honor went to Switzerland snowboarder Iouri Podladtchikov. Even more shocking? White also didn't win silver (Japan's Ayumu Hirano) or bronze (Japan's Taku Hiraoka). He ended up finishing in fourth place in the halfpipe and didn't earn a medal.
Wow. What else can we say?
