The racing world has turned its attention to Michael Schumacher as he fights for his life following a severe skiing accident.

Schumacher is in critical condition after suffering "severe head trauma" when he hit his head on a rock as he was skiing in the French Alps, according to Christophe Gernignon-Lecomte, the director of the Meribel resort he suffered his injury at. The accident occurred at approximately 11 AM on Sunday as he was skiing on unmarked slopes.

After being originally reported as not serious, the injury was revealed to be dire enough to require immediate brain surgery. His condition hasn't upgraded, so thoughts go out to him on a successful recovery.

Schumacher hasn't had much success these past couple of years with the Mercedes team, but the struggles hasn't at all diminished his legendary run during his prime. The 44-year-old holds the record for most championships (seven), victories (91), and wins in a season (13 in 2004) among a few others. He was particularly dominant at the turn of the millennium with Ferrari, when he ruled from 2000-04 as the world champion before retiring in 2006. In short, the man is a legend.
