Oscar De La Hoya's company Golden Boy Promotions will be promoting the hell out of the Floyd Mayweather Jr./Canelo Alvarez fight this weekend. But as it turns out, De La Hoya himself won't be in attendance at the fight on Saturday night. And why won't he be there? Well, it seems he's going to check himself into a rehab center in order to get treatment for his ongoing battle with alcohol and drug addiction rather than attend.

"Canelo Alvarez and I have big fights coming up this weekend," he said in a statement earlier today. "His is in the ring and mine in treatment. I will not be at the fight to cheer Canelo to victory since I have voluntarily admitted myself to a treatment facility. I explained this to Canelo, and he understood that my health and long-term recovery from my disease must come first. Thank you for your understanding. I ask for your support during this difficult time for me and my family."

It sucks that De La Hoya has to miss what promises to be the biggest fight of 2013. But it's good to see that he's doing what's best for himself right now and getting the help that he needs. Hopefully he's able to stick with it and beat his substance abuse problem once and for all.
