If you were nursing a fantasy regarding the ownership of James Bond's Lotus Esprit submarine, we regret to inform you that you're about two days and $996,560 too late. Sorry. The car was used in The Spy Who Loved Me and has been the inspiration of numerous, mostly ill-fated, submersible car attempts. It was sold by RM Auctions on Monday in London.
While the vehicle doesn't actually work as a car anymore, it does still work as a submarine. Yup, this was a pre-CGI movie, so the producers actually built a working Lotus Esprit Sub. We just hope the new owner has the balls to actually take it for a dip, even if it's just in a pool.
