We've known for a few months that Toyota's hydrogen-powered car is due for release in 2015, but we've known very little about it beyond that. Now Toyota's beans are spilling...one...by...one.
What we've learned is that the car will be Prius-based. It's going to use the Prius' Hybrid Synergy Drive, but with a hydrogen fuel cell in the place of a gasoline engine. Of course, this means that the emissions will be nothing but pure water vapor, which is certainly better than the toxic cocktail we're all familar with. Range will be about 420 miles.
The company is aiming to be selling "tens of thousands" of hydrogen cars by 2020, based on projections regarding the the roll-out of technology and the proliferation of hydrogen filling stations.
Expect the car to cost between $60,000 and $70,000.
