We loveMazda Miatas for their extremely pure interpretation of what a sports car is, and fantastic dynamics, and we love diesel engines, for their efficiency and heaping piles of torque, but we're not so sure we'd love a diesel Miata. Diesels may be great for highway cruising, but they suffer from painfully slow throttle response, which might completely defeat the purpose.
Granted, the idea of a diesel Miata hasn't been green-lit, but the fact that it's being considered at all makes us wonder what Mazda's engineers are smoking.
