Windows of advancement in the NBA open quickly, close just as fast and rarely offer the same opportunity twice. A massive improvement or wholesale reinvention after the age of 25 is rare, but not impossible, and the occurrence makes for one of the most interesting subplots of any season. And it’s worthy of celebration because of just how hard it is. Think of Reggie Evans transforming into a staple of Brooklyn’s rotations this season, or Marc Gasol into the NBA’s most dangerous center at 28, four years after his debut, as two examples. Take note that those are representative of this list, because these five are not chosen because they all are expected to be at the same level, but instead for their relative improvement. It does, however, mean these players could arrive at one place equally: the forefront of the casual NBA fan’s awareness.

Here are five players we believe have the best shot at arriving to a new level in 2013-14, the fourth in a series of seven features made possible by the new Heineken Star Bottle.
