Ryan Braun is making headlines again. And, once again, it's for all the wrong reasons. According to Yahoo! Sports, Braun's name shows up in three different records that were kept by Biogenesis—a Miami clinic that reportedly provided athletes like Alex Rodriguez, Melky Cabrera, and Gio Gonzalez with performance-enhancing drugs in recent years. The only good news for Braun is that, unlike several of the other athletes named in the records, his name was not listed alongside specific PEDs. But, his name is listed in the records, and it's clear that he's got some explaining to do in the coming days.
Braun has already released a statement claiming that Dr. Tony Bosch, the founder of Biogenesis, was a "consultant" that he used back in 2012 when he appealed a positive drug test.
"During the course of preparing for my successful appeal last year, my attorneys, who were previously familiar with Tony Bosch, used him as a consultant," he said in the statement. "More specifically, he answered questions about T/E ratio and possibilities of tampering with samples. There was a dispute over compensation for Bosch's work, which is why my lawyer and I are listed under 'moneys owed' and not on any other list. I have nothing to hide and have never had any other relationship with Bosch. I will fully cooperate with any inquiry into this matter."
That's not going to be the last time Braun has to speak about this, though. And, after the debacle he went through back in 2011 and 2012, we're sure he'd rather do anything than spend another year fighting off accusations about PEDs. But, it looks like that's what he's going to have to do.
