Maine and a Group of Automakers are Trying to Ban E15 Fuel

Because it will damage your engine.

None

The new E15 fuel is, as the name suggests, 15% ethanol. Corn growers love it, because it's made from the corn they sell, but automakers are against it because it can damage your engine and void the warranty of your car. Ford and GM only recommend putting E15 in specifically marked FlexFuel vehicles, while Chrysler says that none of its vehicles should be fueled with the biofuel.

Now the state of Mainehas joined the fight, and is asking for assistance from neighboring states in banning the fuel. The president of the Renewable Fuels Association, on the other hand, says "If there are consumers in Maine that would like to add E15 to their 2012 Ford, then I think Maine should want to see consumer choice. They’re taking that consumer choice away, and that seems somewhat un-American to me."
