Initially, Mariano Rivera refused to let the freak incident in the warning track at Kauffman Stadium be the last time Yankees fans witnessed their closer donning pinstripes. "I'm coming back," Rivera said only one day after tearing his ACL. "Put it down. Write it down in big letters. I ain't going down like this." Now, there's a chance that Mo may never return to diamond after all.
According to ESPN New York, Rivera is having "the familiar tug that he has carried for many years of possibly wanting to stay home with his family and call it a career" after spending the last several months rehabbing from his injury. And with a resume that includes five World Series titles and the record for most saves in MLB history (608), it's hard to imagine what else he would want to accomplish if he did return in 2013.
Of course, as a fierce competitor, it would difficult for Mariano to let an injury dictate when his playing days come to an end, but as a devout individual, this may be a sign that it is time to hang up the uniform for good.
