The U.S. Navy purchased the IX-529 Sea Shadow stealth ship in 1985 at a price of $50 million dollars as an experiment in applying the radar-evading technology already present in stealth fighters like the F-117 Nighthawk. Having never been used since it's purchase, and after an unsuccessful attempt by the military to donate it to various museums, the 164-foot long ship was recently sold to the Bay Ship & Yacht Co. for $2.5 million in scrap metal.
