Euro 2012 kicks off on Friday. And, you know what that means: Lots and lots of brand-new futbol jerseys will be scattered throughout the stands in Poland. But, according to a European watchdog group called BEUC, that could be problematic for many futbol fans. They say that the official jerseys of at least nine teams—including Poland, Spain, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Italy, France, Holland, and Portugal—contain high levels of lead and other toxic chemicals and could actually be dangerous for fans' health. In fact, the group says that Poland's jersey have such high levels that they should be "banned outright" and that "harmful chemical cocktails" can be found in all nine of the team jerseys.

"It is inexplicable that heavy metals are used in mass consumer products," the BEUC's director said recently. "It is clearly foul play by manufacturers to use substances harmful to both people and the environment."

We knew attending soccer games in some places of the world could be dangerous. But, who knew they could be this dangerous? Maybe supporting your team with a flag or, better yet, a button is the way to go at Euro 2012.
