Want to try a fixed gear but don't want to drop a lot of cash? The Mercier Kilo TT may only share a name with the classic Merciers of the past (the CyclesMercier website doesn't appear to have been updated since '05), but for under $400 shipped from Bikes Direct it comes with a real Reynolds steel frameset drilled for brakes, and parts that are at least good enough to run while learning the ropes. (OK, maybe the wheelset is a little shady — tighten that lockring good.) This may be entry-level, but for the price of a shoddy conversion, it's well worth it.
