It's bad enough that Antonio Cromartie cannot name every single one of his kids. The last thing he needs is to worry about the mental stability of his own wife. On May 6, 2011, while in Miami, Antonio received two alarming, early morning text messages from his wife, Terricka Cason Cromartie, who happened to be seven months pregnant.
“God forgive me, I don’t want to die. What have I done?”
“I cut my wrists. I took those pills.”
Upon reading those two texts, the Jets cornerback contacted the nearby Randolph Township, N.J. police, who needed to knock down the doors of the Cromarties' home to get inside. Once the authorities managed to enter their house, they found Terricka and her two daughters safe and sound. When the police questioned Antonio's wife, she confessed to faking the suicide attempt because she thought her husband was cheating.
In the police report, Terricka also “stated that she had no intention of going through with the act,” and that “she said she was exercising her First Amendment right to free speech and could say whatever she wanted.” While the whole ordeal didn't lead to any resolution to figuring out the cornerback's supposed cheating ways, it did land his wife a psychiatric evaluation at the local hospital.
After initially refusing to go because "a paid driver was coming to take to her to the airport to go to Miami, and that she would be in her sister’s wedding that weekend," Terricka eventually gave in and the state’s child-protection agency took temporary care of her two daughters. Our piece of advice for Antonio would be to re-evaluate where his marriage currently stands, but there's more important matters at hand: the couple is now expecting twins.
