GM Temporarily Ceases Volt Production

Shrouds truth in buzz-speak.

None

1,300 workers GM's Detroit-Hamtramck plant have been idles as a result of a cease production order for the Volt. GM spokesman Chris Lee said "We’re doing it to maintain our proper inventory levels as we align production with demand," which is a clever way of saying "we're not selling any of the damn things."

Poor sales aren't really surprising given the Volt's $40,000 price tag. Why spend that much on a car that gets 35/40mpg when a $24,000 Prius gets 51/48? Is driving 36 miles on electric-only mode really worth $16,000?
