If you're one of the many sneakerheads who uses Facebook to sell their shoes, you'll want to pay close attention to this one.
Police in Calhoun County, Mich., are dealing with multiple cases of counterfeit money being used to purchase sneakers. WWMT reports that each incident started on Facebook, where the suspects arranged deals with their victims and then used fake $100 bills to buy the shoes. In one such case, the seller quickly realized the cash was fake and ended up following the suspect back to his home.
"We don't want anyone to get hurt, we don't want anyone else to be victimized. So contact us and let us know, and we'll help you out," Battle Creek, Mich., Mayor Jim Grafton said, urging victims not to take matters into their own hands.
According to police, the same scam has taken place on three separate occasions over the last week, and they say each one is connected. In two of the cases, police were able to apprehend suspects and hit them with additional drug charges, so it sounds like this is about more than just sneakers.
