First they signed his team and now adidas is setting its sights on Wayne Rooney.
In July 2014, adidas secured the sponsorship rights to Manchester United away from Nike ending the team's 13 year partnership with the Swoosh. And now, according to a story from The Telegraph, adidas is gearing up to offer Nike athlete Rooney a significant contract offer that would dwarf the reported £1 million he collects under his current deal. Adidas is arguably the biggest name in soccer and has a star-studded roster led by Lionel Messi, Xavi, Jozy Altidore, and Gareth Bale who reportedly makes $5.5 million a year.
With James Harden's well-documented move to adidas making headlines earlier this year, expect a Rooney to adidas story to draw quite a bit of interest as well. No official details have surfaced just yet, so stay tuned for further news.
