A St. Louis, Mo. police officer is stepping up to help out a grieving family after a 5-year-old boy witnessed his mother's murder.

The Daily Mail reports that an anonymous officer took Whitney Brown's 5-year-old son, Jakeem, on a shopping spree that included sneakers and school supplies. Brown was murdered on August 12, when a shooter opened fire on a vehicle that she and her son were riding in. The young boy watched the horrific event unfold, and now his family is thanking the officer for his generosity.

"You just don't find too many people that are going to be willing to help somebody especially when [they're] going through tragedy," grandmother Erica Jones said. "Him and Jakeem made a great bond, they got shirts made together and everything. [Jakeem] cried when he left, because he didn't want to leave."

Although it's impossible for a situation like this to have a happy ending, we have to extend props to the anonymous officer for lending a helping hand.
