Last week it was a distinct red beard, and now a pair of boxer briefs has become the smoking gun in a New York sneaker robbery.

The New York Post says that 18-year-old Taykim Ross made his way into a Hempstead Village apartment on Monday and stole cash, video games, and a pair of Air Jordans. As he made his way out of the building, Ross did what any accomplished sneaker thief would do and stopped to try on the new kicks. It was then that the robbery victim's neighbor spotted him and took a picture of the act, which also displayed the teenager's bright red underwear.

This happened around 10:30 a.m., and by 1:30 in the afternoon, a police officer spotted a teenager taking out the garbage and revealing a similar pair of boxers. "Let me talk to you for a minute — you been shopping for sneakers today?" the officer asked Ross. After Ross briefly feigned ignorance of the robbery, the officer pulled out the photo taken of the crime, leaving the teen little choice but to admit to his actions.

But that's not all. The garbage run that got Ross busted was actually an act of kindness — the teen was helping out an elderly neighbor. Despite the robbery, it sounds like Ross isn't that bad of a guy after all.

And the sneakers in question? They were a pair of the Air Jordan 1 High "CP3," which are still available now from Nike.
