Weeks back, we covered the most recent developments in a photographer's infringement case against Nike over the Jumpman logo and mentioned that the case probably wouldn't last much longer. And just like that, it's all over.
Oregon Live is reporting that the case came to an abrupt close last week when a U.S. District Judge approved Nike's motion for a dismissal. According to the judge, the plaintiff, photographer Jacob Rentmeester, "failed to show that he can satisfy the requisite objective test for copyright infringement." In other words, there's no real proof that Nike stole the logo.
As if things weren't already bad enough for Rentmeester, the judge ethered him in a scathing 14-page ruling. "Mr. Rentmeester has shot another brick and failed to meet the objective test for copyright infringement," the judge said.
