Back in 2004, Nike collaborated with Australian industrial designer Marc Newson on a radical sneaker that pushed the design envelope. The Zvezdochka, which was named after the Russian dog that was sent to space in 1961, was a game changing piece of footwear that only consisted of four parts, including a perforated cage.

The design was so unique and ahead of its time that Nike CEO Mark Parker even told Business of Fashion in September that it was one of his favorite sneaker collaborations.

For the Zvezdochka's 10th anniversary, NikeLab is set to reissue the model in its five original colorways. And while a decade has passed since its drop, the Zvezdochka still continues to influence Nike and its design ethos.

"Looking ahead, I’m energized thinking of the opportunities provided by customization and modularity," Parker said about the Zvezdochka's impact on footwear design. "Of course, in terms of sustainable design, the ZVEZDOCHKA’s influence will continue to be deeply felt. The shoe removed constraints for a sustainable future. This will always be a goal of ours."

The Zvezdochka is set to release on December 29 through Nike Store and NikeLab.
