Joe Montana...Joe Namath... Pete Rose... no we aren't counting down a list of sports legends, we're just naming the current faces of Skechers' Relaxed Fit line, all of whom happen to be retired athletes.

Now you can add another name to this list of former pro athletes signed by Skechers, as New York Yankees legend Mariano Rivera is joining the team. The company announced today that the 13-time All-Star closer and five-time World Series champion will appear in ads for the Relaxed Fit line, the first of which will be a television commercial set to air in the Spring of 2015.

"After 19 seasons on the mound, I'm the one that needs relief these days, and comfortable Relaxed Fit shoes get the job done," Rivera said. "I'm thrilled to be working with Skechers on the same team as the impressive roster of sports legends that have appeared in this ongoing campaign."

While the strategy may differ from competitors like Nike, adidas and Under Armour, who aim for current talent, you have to hand it to Skechers for at least grabbing some elite former players. With the exception of Mark Cuban, all of their endorsers are Hall of Fame "caliber" (Sorry, Pete) and some of the best players to ever play in their sport. Let Nike and company battle over the latest star of the moment all they want, Skechers is happy scooping up legends.
