Skating's come a far way from old Nike Air Jordan high-tops and bent-out-of-shape tennis shoes in the pre-ska era of the sport, and now Nike is showing just far the distance has grown.

With star skater Paul Rodriguez's new signature shoe, the Nike SB P-Rod 7 Hyperfuse, the future has arrived at a place that somewhat unidentifiable. Looking similarly to a running shoe and basketball shoe that had a child, the P-Rod 7 Hyperfuse is a product of sheer innovation for the skateboard. Max Air finds a home in the heel, Phylite foam and a Free sole gets the limelight in the forefoot, and Hyperfuse takes center stage for the entire upper of the shoe (in a high-top!).

Sporting a black and hot pink package, the P-Rod 7 Hyperfuse is a skating shoe that aims more for new wave performance than settling in for the standard look of casual action. Considering how serious skateboarding has become by both skaters and those outside of the performance scene, maybe it it takes is for the shoes to evolve as more people continue to acknowledge the seriousness of those who participate.
