Westworld

Westworld, HBO’s breakout sci-fi fantasy series, has started teasing its second season in a predictably cryptic fashion. Visiting the "Discover Westworld" website today starts out as expected, with an advertisement for the show’s robot amusement park. Within seconds, though, the screen cuts to an animation showing a kind of instant messaging log where an “Unknown User” is attempting to communicate. “Is anybody out there?” the user writes. “Something’s gone wrong. We need help, can you hear th…” Suddenly, the message screen cuts out and begins to glitch. Within seconds, the same message log returns, but this time a “Registered User” ensures that “All is well. Celebrations continue…”

The folks at io9 have already started pouring over the animations for possible clues about what it could all mean. They point out that the message program’s name, “Journey Into Night,” which is the name of the new narrative Ford had finished when we last saw him, also appears to confirm the name of the first episode of the show’s second season. This detail could provide clues for what will happen in the show's next season - and on the Westworldsubreddit, fans have already begun theorizing just what it could all mean.

We already know from show runners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy that the second season will not air until sometime in 2018, so this newest website update is likely an attempt to get people excited about the show again ahead of the Westworld panel at the San Diego Comic-Con on July 22.

In fact, if you interact further with the "Discover Westworld" website, there are more hints. You can speak to a robot named Aiden, who will tell you that the Comic Con panel will be a “traveling roadshow.”

This new website update comes on the back of unconfirmed reports that Westworld’s highly anticipated second season will begin filming in California and Utah on Monday, July 10.

In the meantime, you can look for Westworld season 1 on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital download this November. Hey, at least it’s something.
