Finally, a trailer the whole family can enjoy! The trailer for the long-awaited Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel finally arrived Monday, meaning now is the time to gather your entire family in front of the TV your laptop and enjoy nearly two straight minutes of wholesome imagery and heartwarming dialogue. Of course, by "wholesome" and "heartwarming," I mean fucking disgusting and nightmarishly bleak.

Leatherface, helmed by French duo Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury, marks the eighth entry in the usually horrifying (and occasionally lackluster) franchise. The film thankfully eschews formulaic sequel and reboot options in favor of serving as a straight-up origin story for the 1974 original's central character, shown below ensuring you get zero sleep tonight:

The Leatherface story, of which very little is given away in the new trailer, was described by Bustillo and Maury last year as being quite different from previous entries in the franchise. "It's a brutal and nihilistic road movie that we hope will surprise and delight the fans," they toldBloody Disgusting, who also premiered the trailer Monday.

They weren't kidding. In the blood-drenched peek, we see a young Leatherface receive an ominous birthday gift: a fucking chainsaw, for christ's sake. Terrible gift idea!

As anyone who's seen the 1974 original (and subsequent Massacre films) already knows, this kid does not run off to the nearest convenience store to return the chainsaw for store credit.

Leatherface stars Stephen Dorff, Jessica Madsen, James Blood, Sam Coleman, Sam Strike, and Vanessa Grasse. An exclusive DirecTV release is set for Sept. 21, with a limited theatrical run and full VOD drop on Oct. 20.
