For the first time ever, Vin Diesel is discussing his rumored feud with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. During the final week of shooting Fast 8, Johnson went on Instagram to call one of his male co-stars a "candy ass" for some unprofessional on-set behavior. It was eventually reported that Diesel was the "candy ass" in question.

Since the rumored revelation, The Rock has been the only one addressing the matter in detail, while Vin only briefly and obliquely touched on the topic in a Facebook Live video, saying, “Proud of our collective, stay positive—I mean that—don't beat anybody up.”

In a new interview with USA TODAY, Diesel opened up a bit about their alleged feud, and even borrowed from his Fast and Furious character Dominic Toretto by referring to The Rock as a member of his family. "I don’t think the world really realizes how close we are, in a weird way," he said. "I think some things may be blown out of proportion. I don't think that was his intention. I know he appreciates how much I work this franchise. In my house, he’s Uncle Dwayne."

Diesel wouldn't reveal what exactly led to the fracturing in their relationship, but he wanted to make it clear that, as the franchise's producer, he did everything he could to "protect" The Rock. "I protect the franchise. I protect everybody including Dwayne," he said. "I protected Dwayne more than he’ll ever know. And it doesn’t matter. He doesn’t have to know. But he appreciates it. He knows it."

"Dwayne has only got one Vin in his life," Diesel continued. "Dwayne Johnson only has one big brother in this film world and that’s me."
