Tragically, not everyone has the time to binge their way through modern classics like Vince Gilligan's AMC epic Breaking Bad. And that's where filmmakers Lucas Stoll and Gaylor Morestin come in. The duo spent 24 months of sleeplessness editing together a two-hour version of Breaking Bad's Shakespearean tale, Maximreported Sunday.
"It's not only a fan-film, hitting the highlights of [the] show in a home-made homage, but rather a re-imagining of the underlying concept itself, lending itself to full feature-length treatment," the filmmakers explained in a statement. "An alternative Breaking Bad, to be viewed with fresh eyes."
As a series, Gilligan's Breaking Bad ran for five seasons. Though the Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul-starring series wrapped up for good back in 2013, the Bad universe has continued to expand thanks to the critically acclaimed spin-off Better Call Saul. The series returns to AMC next month, promising the return of fan-favorite Giancarlo Esposito as Gus Fring.
"I was mainly concerned that this not be a parody of him," Esposito toldVulture of Fring's return last week. "In my real life, I'll go to airports and people say to me all the time, 'Say this line, say that line from Breaking Bad.' But I can't do that here. Where do I find the juice to make this guy new and fresh? It's the slightly younger Gus, so maybe he's a little less confident? Maybe more vulnerable? Maybe he's trying to find his sea legs within this very dangerous world?"
Better Call Saul returns Apr. 10.
