Despite Lindsay Lohan’s very public pleas, there are currently no plans for a Mean Girls sequel. But, just because fans of the beloved cult classic won’t be seeing another big screen incarnation of Regina George and her savage Plastics anytime soon, it doesn't mean they won’t be able to get their Mean Girls fix in 2017.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the long-gestating Mean Girls musical finally has a premiere date. Tina Fey, who wrote the original film, is also writing the musical version, which is set to premiere on Oct. 3 at the National Theater in Washington, D.C.

And, based on THR’s report, it looks like the Mean Girls musical is going to be a family affair, with Fey’s husband, Jeff Richmond, composing the score. Neil Benjamin, who worked on the Legally Blonde musical, will write the lyrics.

The thirst for more Mean Girls reached a fever pitch earlier in the week, after Lohan told CNN that she was down for a sequel, and has even written a treatment. “I have been trying so hard to do a Mean Girls 2. It is not in my hands,” she said, adding, “I know that Tina Fey and Lorne Michaels (who produced the original) and all of Paramount are very busy… I will keep forcing it and pushing it on them until we do it.”

It’s been a while since Lohan showcased her singing chops, but if she wants back into the Mean Girls universe, it might be time to flex the skills that made “Rumors” such a banger.
