Whenever we talk about TV shows smashing records, we usually end up taking a deep dive into the history of The Simpsons. While Homer and company's legacy is nothing to scoff at, we should probably definitely start throwing It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia into these conversations. The wonderfully strange FXX series, recently renewed for two more seasons, just launched its semi-NSFW trailer for season 12 and, well, there's a lot to study here.

In addition to the proud utterances of "cocksucker," "bitch," and "cunt," the first look at a reliably depraved 12th season of It's Always Sunny includes some "dicks out" action and the ingestion of PCP.

FXX's renewal back in April ties It's Always Sunny with The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet as the longest-running live-action comedy series in television history. In a statement announcing the double season commitment, the network's co-boss of original programming emphasized the series' legacy and thanked its devoted fanbase.

"If anyone doubts the power of a camcorder and a dream, just look at It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which was a DIY backyard pilot when Rob, Charlie and Glenn brought it to FX and will go down in TV history as one of the most loved and enduring comedies," Nick Grad said. "Few shows make it this far or have such devoted fans, and we owe it all to the creative vision and great humor of the creators and cast who keep Sunny fresh and inventive every season."

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia returns Jan. 4.
