While it’s not been confirmed all signs are pointing to the inevitable fact that Daniel Craig will be stepping down from the role of James Bond, therefore marking Spectre as his last outing as 007.

With Craig apparently set to step down The Sun is claiming that a shortlist of eight actors have been drawn up to replace him. Idris Elba is one name that’s on that list, particularly as his name has been constantly linked with the role, along with frontrunner Tom Hiddleston, Michael Fassbender, Luke Evans, Charlie Hunnam, James Norton and Jamie Bell.

However Elba, aged 43, has played down any speculation, stating that he’s too old to play the role of the world’s greatest spy (sorry Jason Bourne).

The search for the new Bond is nowhere it’s audition stage yet (can you imagine asking Elba, Hiddleston and Fassbender to do an audition?) so we’re probably a few months to a year away from finding out if, and when, we will have a new 007.
