Metal Gear Survive

To say that there’s no love loss between Konami and Hideo Kojima would be an understatement. It’s like an ugly divorce where the child, which in this case is the Metal Gear Solid series, has to stay with one parent whilst the other only has weekend access.

By now you’ve seen the footage of the next MGS game, Metal Gear Survive. The internet has been less-than-kind to the upcoming game, with the recent Tokyo Game Show (TGS) demo video getting absolutely destroyed in the YouTube comments sections. The complaints vary from the confusing inclusion of zombies to the obvious, lazy approach of reusing the same game engine from the last game, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

The 'Metal Gear Survive' Game Play Demo was premiered at this year's Tokyo Game Show

Kojima, who created the MGS series, gave his opinion on 'Metal Gear Survive', during a TGS presentation for his new game, Death Stranding. When asked what he thought about the new game he proceeded throw some shade saying: "The Metal Gear games are about political fiction and espionage. Where do zombies fit in with that?"

Ouch. Burn.

Yoji Shinkawa who worked with Kojima on various MGS games gave his two-cents as well, claiming that: "If I had worked on that game, it would have mechs in it".

It’s clear from their comments that they don’t think highly of the direction their former employers are taking Kojima’s baby in.
