If you had the genius idea of combing hot dogs with burgers and taking the concept to Dragons Den you’re too late. A man in Australia beat you to it and he’s successfully filled a patent for the 'Hamdog'.

As you can probably guess by the name the Hamdog brings the hot dog and burger together under one bun. The creator Mark Murray first brought the unorthodox fast-food combo onto Shark Tank—Australia’s version of 'Dragon’s Den', where he pitched the idea to potential investors.

They didn’t believe in the product at the time, but it may become a decision they’ll regret. A year after the rejection Murray started selling the Hamdogs at fairs and markets in Western Australia and it's proved a hit in that region, speaking to newsau.com he said: "We launched our marquee two months ago and we had people come from everywhere just to experience the Hamdog… At one stage the crew were knocking out about one every 15 seconds. It was amazing".

Murray actually patented the hamdog in the US back in 2009 but it’s only recently he started to sell them. He described it as "a party in in your mouth" when pitching the concept to the Shark Tank investors back in 2015.

According to the BBC:

"The burger is split in half, to allow the hotdog to be placed in between. The bun is then also filled with lettuce, tomato, pickles, cheese, mustard, tomato sauce and mayonnaise"

Murray claims that they "use all local ingredients" and the only thing not from Western Australia is the pickles.

Here's glimpse into how the Hamdogs are made
