Actress Simone Missick is set to play Marvel character "Misty Knight" in the upcoming Netflix series Luke Cage. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Missick will not be appearing as Knight in the series Iron Fist, but will be appearing in the Luke Cage.

Misty Knight is a love interest to Luke Cage and Danny Rand (aka Iron Fist) in both Marvel comic books' series. Her character is a fan-favorite that was first introduced by Marvel comics in 1975, and was heavily influenced by the blaxpoitation film of the decade. The backstory of her character in the comic is a black NYPD female detective who is trained in martial arts skills. After being injured on the job while preventing a bomb attack, she gained a bionic arm by Tony Stark/Iron Man, giving her superhuman strength.

When Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb was asked by THR about a possible spinoff series strictly for her, he replied: "We're very lucky in a sense that our casts are so rich and deep and so diverse." He added,

"We certainly have plans for all of our characters. A lot of it has to do with exactly how many shows Netflix is actually going to let us make. We're up to six now. "At a certain point, we have to be careful that we're not becoming the Marvel channel on Netflix. But I think Netflix is being very selective in terms of where we're going. That being said, Simone just knocked it so far out of the park that we're still trying to find the baseball. It's somewhere out there traversing the globe. So it's really great. And I can tell you that what she's doing on Luke Cage, it's just incredible.

The Luke Cage series is scheduled for release on Sep. 30.
