HBO's six-part series The Jinx already gave audiences a look at Robert Durst, suspected killer, all the while winning an Emmy for Best Documentary Series in 2015. Now, Lifetime plans on bringing us even more Durst by making a TV movie about the real estate heir and one of the missing persons cases that has dogged him for years.
The as of now untitled Lifetime movie will focus on Durst and the relationship with his first wife Kathleen "Kathie" McCormack until her 1982 disappearance in which Durst was a suspect, reportedEntertainment Weekly. Whereas The Jinx was a docuseries investigating the cases in which Durst was a suspect (including the murder of a neighbor in Texas in 2001) the Lifetime movie will tell the story through Kathleen. It will be an adaptation of Matt Birkbeck's 2003 book A Deadly Secret: The Strange Disappearance of Kathie Durst, which was renamed A Deadly Secret: The Bizarre and Chilling Story of Robert Durst after The Jinx aired.
While The Jinx was airing, Durst was arrested and later charged with the 2000 murder of his friend Susan Berman. He's currently serving a seven year sentence after pleading guilty to a weapons charge.
At the end of The Jinx, Durst was famously caught on a hot mic saying, "What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course."
As if that wasn't enough true crime TV programming this month, CBS has just unveiled a trailer for an upcoming docuseries revisiting the 1996 murder of six-year-old JonBenét Ramsey.
