Though the box office may strongly suggest otherwise, not everyone is exactly stoked about the ubiquity of the superhero movie model that's taken over the industry. Suicide Squad, for example, made a preposterous amount of money while making film critics across the nation question their very livelihood. We get it, critics. Suicide Squad wasn't very good. But what does John Oliver think?

Last Week Tonight was a no-show on HBO's Sunday slate, but Oliver planned ahead like a gentlemen by prepping the release of a web exclusive aimed at solving what some might describe as acute superhero fatigue. "I'm here on the internet to do the most internet thing imaginable, and that is complain about superhero movies," Oliver told his audience. "Just this year, blockbusters included movies ranging from Mean Spider-Man to Sadman vs. Super Sadman to The Insane Clown Posse Takes Manhattan." I'll give you one guess as to which of those loving nicknames was bestowed upon Suicide Squad.

But, hey, don't fear or whatever. Oliver has a brilliant idea for everyone who's feeling less-than-enthused about another round of familiar characters doing familiar things. "I have a solution for fans looking for something beyond the Marvel and DC universes, and I hope some movie executives are watching this and taking notes," Oliver said. "Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you next year's summer blockbuster, Johnny Strong." Indeed, Mr. Strong is a crudely drawn character Oliver created way back in fifth grade. His by-day Clark Kent-esque identity, compellingly enough, is the convenient John Olivier. "No relation," Oliver clarified.

Given Johnny Strong's enviable pair of superpowers ("He's seen a boob and knows what the F-word is!"), it's safe to say summer 2017 is a lock for Oliver. Maybe dude will get ahead of the game by immediately rebooting Johnny Strong in 2018, only to then release a prequel in 2019 before expanding the John Oliver cinematic universe with some sort of crossover spectacle in 2020. That's how this all works, right?
