Now that (nearly) everyone has seen David Ayer's Suicide Squad, the leading question seems to be: What now? Well, if Jared Leto has his way, Ayer will grab all the deleted Suicide Squad footage and roll that into a proper Joker movie. In fact, Leto theorized in a recent interview that the main reason any Joker-related footage was cut in the first place was the fact that it was simply too, you know, Joker-y.
"I think I brought so much to the table in every scene that it was probably more about filtering all of the insanity," Leto told BBC Radio 1's Edith Bowman over the weekend, as spotted by Screen Rant. "I wanted to give a lot of options, and I think there's probably enough footage in this film for a Joker movie."
Leto also expressed his desire that Suicide Squad should have been rated R, a desire echoed by frustrated fans and critics alike. "If a film was ever going to be rated R, it should be the one about the villains," Leto explained. Indeed—the hard R, after all, has already risen.
Speaking on the future of any deleted Suicide Squad footage with Collider Monday, Ayer said fans will "maybe" get a glimpse of it when the film hits Blu-ray and VOD. "We have a chunk, there's definitely over 10 minutes of material on there," Ayer said. "But this cut of a movie is my cut, there's no sort of parallel universe version of the movie, the released movie is my cut."
