Calvin Riley, a 20-year-old infielder for San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, Calif., was shot and killed in San Francisco on Saturday night while playing Pokémon Go. According to NBC Bay Area, Riley was playing the game in Aquatic Park near the popular tourist destination Ghirardelli Square at around 10 p.m. when he was shot in the chest by an unknown assailant. Paramedics attempted to revive Riley, but he was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Police have not yet identified any suspects in the shooting yet, but Sergeant Robert Jansing, an investigator with the U.S. Park Police, told SF Gate that there were likely witnesses to the crime as a result of the large number of people who were in Aquatic Park on Saturday night. Police have learned that Riley was playing Pokémon Go at the time of the incident, but it is not yet clear if the game was related in any way to the shooting. SF Gate is reporting that many Aquatic Park visitors were playing Pokémon Go on Saturday.

Riley's cousin Gabriel Antonio Morales set up a GoFundMe page on Sunday to raise funds "to help Cal's parents put him to rest with the respect, dignity, and honor that he deserves." The page had a goal of $40,000 and had already exceeded that amount as of Monday afternoon.
