Everything happens for a reason. In addition to being just some nonsense people say to make themselves feel better, that old saying should offer comfort to the concerned parents of the kids who unwittingly caught a glimpse of the supremely R-rated Sausage Party trailer earlier this month. For reference, here's the exquisitely vulgar trailer for Seth Rogen's 3D tale of a sausage searching for the path to freedom, i.e. not getting eaten by a hungry human:
Hoping to catch a showing of the Finding Nemo sequel Finding Dory at the Brenden Concord 14 Theater in California, kids and their presumably surprised and/or excited parents were gifted with an unexpected peek at Rogen's adult-oriented party of sausages. "Playing that trailer was a one-time honest mistake by a theater manager moving screens around in an effort to accommodate several large last-minute groups wanting to see Dory," Walter Eichinger, Vice President of Operations of the Brenden Theater Corporation, toldBay Area News and Talk Tuesday. "The wrong movie was started by mistake."
According to Eichinger, one "hardworking manager" clicked the wrong movie during a particularly busy day, thus setting off the chain of events that ended with an impromptu showing of the Sausage Party trailer. "It was caught soon but not until that trailer was played," Eichinger said. "We regret it, apologize for it, and we are not happy that it happened."
But what's there to be sorry about? Even Seth Rogen was pleased by the mishap, tweeting his approval and insisting the news made his day:
The Concord theater's mistake shouldn't hurt Sausage Party's chances of slaying the box office in August. As previously reported, the animated insta-classic is currently on track to become Rogen's biggest movie ever. Who the hell needs the family-friendly co-sign when you've got an obvious hit on your hands?
