Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe were thrilled when news broke that Sony planned to link up with Marvel for the next series of Spider-Manmovies. While nothing has been confirmed yet, there's a rumor going around that'll surely perk the ears of superhero nerds around the world: 20th Century Fox may follow in Sony's footsteps by letting Marvel take some creative control of future X-Menmovies.

Fatman on Batman podcast producer Matt Key dished on some of the rumors he's heard about the possibility of Fox teaming up with Marvel during the most recent episode of Collider Heroes, Screen Crush reports.

I’ve heard from a few of my sources, my little birds, that Fox and Marvel have… kind of talked, but not really, but like there’s interest from Fox, like, ‘Ooh, y’know, what they did with Sony and Spider-Man is actually pretty cool, like, maybe…’ We’re years away from that ever possibly happening… but I think that’s what it would take… Fox joining hands with Marvel

The part about this collaboration being "years away from that ever possibly happening" is pretty discouraging, but at least the possibility exists. Licensing agreements have historically prevented some major comic book crossovers from happening, which is why the rumor about Fox and Marvel joining forces could be major if it ends up being true.

It's important to take Key's words lightly, as his comments about this rumor didn't constitute any formal announcements or definite information. Still, you better believe Marvel fans will be speculating like crazy about the potential crossovers as we learn more about the legitimacy of Key's comments.
