The God of War series was in need of a dire change after 2013’s enjoyable, if at times underwhelming, God of War: Ascension on the PlayStation 3. It looks like Sony and Santa Monica Studios have delivered the goods for God of War 4.

Revealed during Sony’s E3 press conference God of War’s main protagonist Kratos is back and it looks like he’s traded in the setting of Ancient Greece for the unrelenting cold of Scandinavia and Norse Mythology. He’s still the angriest man in gaming but it looks like he’s trying to work through his rage issues thanks to help of an unnamed boy, who seems to be his son.

The nine-minute video shows off the new, lush graphics and a change in gameplay. Yes, the trademark violence and carnage is still present but it seems that the mechanics and gameplay have changed drastically, you can’t help but feel that the new gameplay has been inspired by the likes of Bloodborne and the Dark Souls series. Another big factor is that Kratos isn’t using his iconic 'Blades of Chaos', in its place is a magic axe, it is possible we’ll see his famous chain blades in the full game.

Despite the changes it is a welcome return for gaming's most angriest man.
